George Floyd: Murder suspect, Derek Chauvin’s bail now set to $1.2M

Ex-cop charged in the murder of George Floyd, an unarmed black man, Derek Chauvin, has been raised to $1.2 million dollars over public outrage and “severity of the charges”, OYOGist.com has gathered.

Derek Chauvin was recorded on camera kneeling on the neck of George Floyd for 8 mins and 46 secs while bystanders urged him to release his knee from Floyd’s neck. He did not lift his knee of the man’s neck until several minutes after he became motionless.

There were three other officers on the scene of the incident.

Derek and the three other officers have been dismissed, arrested, and charged with varying degrees of murder and aiding and abetting murder. Derek is charged for 2nd-degree murder and manslaughter.

The action of the cop has drawn global protests in the United States over systemic racism and violence against black people and people of color.

George Floyd is expected to be laid to rest in a private funeral service on Tuesday in Houston. His body was put on display for the public to view at the The Fountain of Praise church in Minneapolis, Floyd’s place of birth.
