Five Suspected Armed Robbers Apprehended in Bauchi for Attacks on Forestry Security Personnel
The Bauchi State Police Command has successfully detained five individuals suspected of involvement in a series of armed robberies targeting members of the Nigerian Forestry and Security Services within Giade Local Government Area. This development follows a coordinated police operation aimed at curbing rising criminal activities in the region.
Details of the Incident and Police Response
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, who issued a statement on Monday, January 19, 2026, initial investigations indicate that the group had been terrorizing Giade town for some time. Their criminal activities included breaking into homes and stealing valuables from residents.
Recovered from the suspects were two red Boxer motorcycles, several sharp knives, a saw commonly used for forced entry, four ATM cards, five motorcycle ignition switches with keys, and three capacitors, all believed to be linked to their illicit operations.
Chronology of the Attack on Forestry Officials
On January 9, 2026, at approximately 2:30 a.m., a gang of about seven armed individuals, wielding cutlasses, knives, sticks, and a dane gun, launched an assault on two members of the Nigerian Forestry and Security Services-Mohammed Musa (also known as Baushe), aged 40, and Auwal Maidawa-both stationed under the Giade Emirate Council.
The victims sustained injuries during the attack and were robbed of their possessions, including a dane gun, a torchlight, and a mobile phone. A tip-off from a vigilant community member at around 3:00 a.m. enabled the police to respond swiftly.
Police Investigation and Arrests
Following the report, a police team led by CSP Bello Yusuf Kumo, the Divisional Police Officer of Giade, mobilized to track down the assailants. Their efforts led to the arrest of Aminu Abdulkadir, 22, from Ung. Guru. Under interrogation, Abdulkadir implicated five other suspects, all of whom were subsequently detained at the Emir’s palace.

Further inquiries revealed that the suspects had been systematically breaking into multiple homes across Giade, stealing various items including thirteen mobile phones, two wrappers, two lace fabrics, one MP3 player, and a Bluetooth device. The total value of stolen goods is estimated at approximately 1.2 million Naira.
In addition to the previously mentioned items, the police recovered tools and equipment used in the robberies, such as sharp knives and a saw, which facilitated forced entry into houses and shops.
Ongoing Legal Proceedings
Investigation into the case is still underway. The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, psc (+), mni, has ordered that the suspects be formally charged and brought before the court to face prosecution for their crimes.
