Repentant Bandits Release 45 Captives in Katsina After Peace Deal
Handover at Border Community
The captives were released on Monday, November 17, 2025, at a border village between Faskari and Bakori local government areas.
The handover was led by one of the repentant bandit kingpins, Alhaji Isiya Kwashen Garwa, and witnessed by the member representing Bakori at the Katsina State House of Assembly, Engr. Abdurrahman Kandarawa.
Fulfilment of Peace Agreement
The release of the captives was carried out in fulfilment of commitments made by the repentant bandits during an earlier peace agreement with government authorities.
Speaking after the successful handover, Engr. Kandarawa expressed gratitude to the former bandits for honouring the agreement and described the move as a positive step toward restoring peace in the area.
Call for Dialogue and Coexistence
Kandarawa reaffirmed the local government’s commitment to sustaining peace and stressed the importance of dialogue and peaceful coexistence between Hausa and Fulani communities, noting their long-standing history of mutual relations.
Appeal for Support and Safety
Alhaji Isiya Kwashen Garwa, speaking on behalf of the repentant bandits, called on all levels of government to guarantee the safety of those who have laid down their arms.
He also urged authorities to ensure unhindered access to towns and communities for repentant members, saying such measures were essential for promoting sustainable peace and stability in the region.
