PDP’s New Dawn: A Fresh Chapter Begins in Ibadan

Bashorun Akinwale Akinwole, widely recognized as Wolekanle and a prominent figure within Oyo State’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has extended his heartfelt congratulations to the recently elected National Executive Committee. He expressed optimism that this leadership will invigorate internal democracy and strategically position the PDP for the upcoming 2027 general elections.

Celebrating a Transparent and United Convention

In a statement released on Sunday, Wolekanle praised the 2025 National Convention held at Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, as a landmark event characterized by transparency, unity, and collective determination among party members nationwide. The convention’s peaceful and meticulously organized nature underscored the PDP’s preparedness to reclaim national leadership.

Governor Makinde’s Role: Championing Fairness and Integrity

Special commendation was given to Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, for his steadfast dedication to fairness and adherence to due process throughout the convention. Wolekanle highlighted Makinde’s resistance to political interference as a pivotal moment in the PDP’s democratic journey, reflecting his integrity and courageous leadership.

New Leadership Team: A Blend of Experience and National Acceptance

The convention saw the participation of over 3,000 accredited delegates representing all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. The election resulted in Dr. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN) assuming the role of National Chairman, with Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja as National Secretary. Other key appointments include Hon. Yomi Awoniyi as Deputy National Chairman (South), Senator Suleiman Adokwe as Deputy National Chairman (North), Hon. Onofiok Luke as National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Nnenna Ukeje as National Women Leader, Hon. Sani Jaji as National Youth Leader, and Chief Olusola Akanmode as National Treasurer. Wolekanle described this team as “competent, proven, and widely respected across the nation.”

Strengthening Party Unity and Strategic Focus Ahead of 2027

Wolekanle urged the new executive to build upon the unity showcased in Ibadan by enhancing the party’s internal frameworks, fostering discipline, and clarifying ideological direction. He emphasized that Nigerians are increasingly looking to the PDP for leadership and innovation, anticipating that the fresh leadership will inject renewed vigor and strategic clarity as the 2027 elections approach.

Call for Collective Support and Reconciliation

He also appealed to all party members to unite behind the new leadership, stressing that reconciliation and teamwork are vital for the PDP’s resurgence. According to Wolekanle, the foundation laid at the Ibadan convention offers a robust platform for the party’s future successes.
