Victor Boniface Opens Up on His National Team Challenges
Werder Bremen’s forward, Victor Boniface, has candidly discussed the difficulties he has encountered while playing for Nigeria’s Super Eagles, according to Soccernet.ng.
Once celebrated as one of Nigeria’s most promising offensive talents, Boniface revealed that his journey with the national team has not met his expectations.

Despite his impressive club performances, Boniface has struggled to translate his form into goals for Nigeria, a factor he believes has skewed public opinion about his contributions.
“I feel like I’ve been quite unfortunate when it comes to scoring for the national team,” Boniface admitted. “There have been matches where I performed well, but ultimately, scoring goals is what counts most in football today.”
“Nowadays, many fans don’t watch the full matches; they just check the live scores. If you score, they compare you to stars like Robinho, but they miss the bigger picture. I feel sorry for those who judge players solely on goals.”
“Representing Nigeria has always been my dream, and I’m proud to have achieved that. Even if things haven’t gone perfectly, it doesn’t define my ability. Sometimes, things just don’t click, but I remain grateful to wear the national jersey.”
“I’ve been unlucky with the national team,” Boniface shared during an intimate interview with African journalists, hosted by the Bundesliga and Werder Bremen.

Analyzing Boniface’s Impact and Statistics with the Super Eagles
Since his debut, Boniface has featured in 13 matches for Nigeria, netting a single goal and providing one assist. His latest appearance was in a 1-1 draw against Russia at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium, where Nigeria’s goals included an own goal by Semi Ajayi and a strike from Tolu Arokodare.
Competition for attacking roles in the Super Eagles remains fierce, with players like Victor Osimhen, Tolu Arokodare, and Sadiq Umar all contending for starting positions.

Despite modest goal tallies, Boniface’s physicality and tactical awareness have made him a valuable asset for various coaches managing the national team.
Recent Club Form: A Mixed Bag at Werder Bremen
At the club level, Boniface’s recent performances have mirrored his international challenges. Since his loan move from Bayer Leverkusen to Werder Bremen, the 24-year-old has yet to score in seven Bundesliga appearances.

His sole direct contribution came in a commanding 4-0 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach, where he assisted a goal.
As the season progresses, Boniface faces a pivotal period to prove his worth and silence critics both domestically and internationally.
