According to reports reaching Oyogist.com, various health experts in South Africa has described the new coronavirus variant detected in the country as more contagious than earlier versions.
The chairperson of the South African Health ministry scientific committee, Prof. Salim Abdool said “The new variant is 50 percent more contagious and there is no evidence the new COVID variant is more severe than the original variant,” he added .
So far, more than 1.3 million people have been infected with Covid-19 in the country as the Coronavirus second wave stretched South Africa’s health system to its limits.
South African authorities had earlier introduced some new restrictions last year December in order to minimise the virus spread.
