The Bureau of the Board of Governor of the African Development Bank (AfDB) has rejected the request of the United States of America to hold a fresh probe into the conduct of its President, Akinwumi Adesina, OYOGist.com has gathered.
The decision to turn down the request to conduct a fresh “deeper investigation” into the Nigerian was reached at a Cote D’Ivoire conference held on Thursday which upheld the decision of the bank’s Ethics Committee in favour of Adesina.
Mr Adesina is expected to go for another 5-year-run as the President of Africa’s largest monetary institution once his first tenure ends in 2020.
Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has assured Mr Adesina of Nigeria’s support.
Many African leaders have called the request by the United States of America for the Bank’s Ethics Committee to conduct a fresh probe held by an independent outside organization on Adesina a witchhunt.
Notably among them was the call by former President Olusegun Obasanjo to several African leaders to support Adesina and stand down the request of the USA to hold a fresh probe on the AfBD President.
