Families of individuals detained over an alleged coup plot in Nigeria have expressed growing concern over the deteriorating health of their loved ones, alleging that several of the suspects are suffering from serious medical conditions while in custody.

The relatives said some of the detainees have reportedly developed health complications due to prolonged detention and limited access to adequate medical care. They appealed to the authorities to ensure the suspects receive prompt treatment and are granted access to their families and legal representatives.

According to the families, several requests for improved healthcare and regular visits have yielded little progress. They argued that while investigations and legal proceedings should continue, the constitutional rights of the detainees, including access to healthcare, must be respected.

The detained suspects were arrested following allegations of involvement in a planned coup with security agencies accusing them of plotting to unlawfully overthrow the federal government. The suspects have remained in custody as investigations and court proceedings continue.

Human rights advocates have also called on the relevant authorities to uphold due process and ensure that the welfare of all detainees is protected in accordance with Nigerian law and international human rights standards.

Meanwhile, security agencies have maintained that the suspects are being held in line with legal procedures and that investigations into the alleged coup plot remain ongoing.

The families reiterated their appeal for the immediate provision of proper medical care and a fair, speedy judicial process, expressing hope that the matter would be resolved in accordance with the law.
