President Buhari has reacted to the reports of State Governments rewarding bandits with money and vehicles, OYOGist.com has gathered.

This is coming on the heels of backlash from Nigerians who have criticized the government for engaging a Northern Sheik Gumi to negotiate with bandits for the release of abducted victims.

“State Governments must review their policy of rewarding bandits with money and vehicles. Such a policy has the potential to backfire with disastrous consequences,” the President tweeted on Friday.

“States and Local Governments must also play their part by being proactive in improving security in & around schools.”

Zamfara State has had repeated cases of banditry, including most recently the abduction of some 300 female students today (26th of February 2021).
