German Chancellor Angela Merkel has revealed new restrictions to combat an increase in coronavirus cases across the country.

In a press conference on Sunday following a gathering of federal and state leaders, Ms Merkel said most stores would be ordered to shut starting on Wednesday, along side schools and daycare centers.

The new restrictions are expected to stay in effect until a minimum of January 10 because the country grapples with a second wave of the pandemic.

German states are still expected to ease Covid-19 restrictions during the vacation period from 24 to 26 December so as to permit relations to collect .

Under those rules, immediate relations from up to a maximum of two households can meet in groups of up to 5 people plus children under fifteen.

The new measures are likely to possess an impression on businesses, particularly with the vacations ahead.

Under the restrictions, schools are being asked to send students home as soon as possible and continue lessons online, with the Christmas holidays also expected to be extended until 10 January.

Meanwhile, parents are going to be allowed to require paid holidays so as to seem after their children as daycares close.

Anyone who can work from house is being encouraged to try to to so.
