OYOGist.com has learned that the Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has boasted of the record of the anti-corruption efforts of the state government, and said that the state has one of the most vibrant anti-corruption agencies in the country.

This was stated during the International Ombudsman Day celebration held at the Kano Anti-Corruption Institute (KANCI) in Kano.

The governor was represented by the state’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Lawan Musa Abdullahi, who said that alongside the establishment of Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) and Kano Anti-Corruption Institute, the state has complimented the efforts of the federal government in the fight against corruption.

The Executive Chairman of the commission, Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado, said the law that institutionalised the commission has made provision for both civil and criminal jurisdiction to treat cases. According to him, under section 9 of the commission’s law, PCACC has the right to ensure that no Kano state indigene is cheated.

The EFCC, ICPC and NHRC representatives all praised the effort of the commission for its support and binding energy in their fight against corruption, and also added that the commission has proved its worth over the years.

This is happening not too long after Govenor Ganduje denied allegations of stuffing wads of money alleged to be kickbacks from contracts awarded. He was, however, absolved of any wrongdoing by a panel set up by the state assembly to probe the matter.

Recalling the governor’s statement in August when he visited the Anti Corruption Commission’s office in Kano, he said the agency should make sure whoever is found wanting faced the consequences and spare no one and assured that he would not interfere with any case regardless of whosoever, might be involved.

He said, “Whosoever falls into the commission’s trap should face the consequence. I will have nothing to do with it. I will not interfere with any case whosoever might be involved”.
