An ex-parte motion seeking to quash the removal of Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe as the Vice–Chancellor of University of Lagos by the Governing Council of the institution has been filed by two Senior Advocates of Nigeria at the National Industrial Court in Lagos, oyogist.com reports.

The two lawyers, Tayo Oyetibo and Ebun Adegboruwa were sighted at the court premises this morning.

The duo had filed the court action on behalf of the former Vice Chancellor against the Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr. Wale Babalakin.

Also joined in the suit is the Governing Council, University of Lagos, asking for an interim injunction to restrain the removal of Professor Ogundipe.

The case is before a vacation judge of the NIC, Justice I.J. Essien. Legal pundits are, however, are of the opinion that the orders being sought amount to an abuse of court system.

One of the lawyers said “Injunctions are only granted in respect of actions that are yet to be carried out. In this case, the Vice Chancellor was removed on 12th August, 2020, almost a week ago and an acting Vice Chancellor has already been appointed. The acting Vice-Chancellor so appointed has settled in office.”
