BREAKING: Seyi Makinde confirms Positive COVID-19 Patient in Ibadan, other suspected cases in self-isolation, alerts community

The Governor of Oyo State, Governor Seyi Makinde has confirmed the first case of COVID-19 in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, after the test for a suspected case at Bodija has come back POSITIVE, OYOGist.com has learned.

The test was released at 17:35 (5:35 PM) of March 21, 2020 local Nigerian time, the Governor said. The patient is believed to be receiving treatment at the state’s tertiary hospital, University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.

Another suspected case, a returnee from Texas, USA, who has been traced to Oluyole Local Government Area of Ibadan, is in self-isolation and is being monitored by the State Epidemiological Team.

Coronavirus Patent tests positive in Bodija, Ibadan

The Governor further revealed that the Ekiti COVID-19’s index patient picked up the deceased from Lagos Airport and traveled to a private apartment in Ona Ara Local Government Area, Ibadan.

The Governor said that the Health Authorities have contacted the family in question and the community has been alerted for intensified contact tracing and self-isolation of contacts who came close to the patient.

The Governor further debunked the information that the Ekiti State COVID-10 index patient stayed at a hotel in Ibadan.
