Crowd mobs Anthony Joshua as he visits his village in Ogun state

World heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua sent his hometown in Ogun state into a frenzy after he paid an unannounced visit to the palace of Akarigbo of Remo in Sagamu, Ogun state.

As news filtered in of the presence of renowned son of the soil in the town, residents quickly trooped to the palace to catch a glimpse of him. Anthony Joshua, although British, is of  Nigerian descent.

He was born in Watford to a Nigerian mother, Yeta Odusanya, and a British father of Nigerian and Irish descent, Robert, in 1989. The boxer spent some of his early years in Nigeria and was a boarding school student at Mayflower School in Ikenne.

He made his debut alongside his cousin, Ben Illeyemi, who is also a professional boxer, in 2013. He hails from a royal family in the Sagamu area of Lagos state.
