The wife of the President, Her Excellency Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, received the wife of the former President, Dame Patience Johnathan at the State House on Monday 10 February 2020.
Dame Patience Johnathan is the wife of former President, Goodluck Jonathan, who served as president for 6 years (2010 to 2015).
The first lady said she and her predecessor discussed her commitment towards seeing women become more active in politics and the increased participation of women at lower level of governance.
Her Excellency Aisha Buhari continued to say that she and Dame Patience Jonathan discussed about the girl-child education and Patience Jonathan’s pet project the “women for change”.
Read Aisha Buhari’s statement on their meeting below:
“Yesterday, I received my predecessor, Her Excellency Dame Patience Jonathan at the State House. We discussed my efforts with regards to greater involvement of women in politics & participation of women at lower level of governance.
“We also discussed girl child education and her pet project “women for change” I got to hear her experience during her tenure and listened to her perspectives on issues affecting women and children in the society.
“It was really nice having her around and I look forward to having more of such moments.”
Both top families have continued to grow closer since the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari for the second term.
Goodluck Jonathan has paid a visit to Buhari at the State House at least twice this year alone.
Many were of the opinion that a fracture within the PDP members has seen Jonathan work with Buhari to hand over Bayelsa (a critical oil state erstwhile held by PDP) to APC candidate, Governor David Lyon.
Some sources have also claimed that Goodluck Jonathan is beginning to rekindle his ambition to run for the Presidency again, as he has instructed his party members to rally round and strengthen themselves for a 2023 comeback.
