The international human rights body, Amnesty International, has urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to respect the rights of former Senator, Sehu Sani.

In a statement released on the body’s social accounts today, the non-governmental organization has expressed concern with Sehu Sani’s treatments in the hands of Nigeria’s law enforcement agency and anti-graft body over an alleged extortion case against Sehu Sani.

Amnesty International has issued a statement to the Nigerian government to let the embattled Senator enjoy a fair And equal hearing as guaranteed by the law and constitution or let him be charged to court if they have a case against him.

A statement the organization shared on it’s official Nigerian Twitter account read “Amnesty International urges Nigerian authorities to respect the human rights of @SehuSani. The constitution and International law are clear on rights to equality before the law, fair hearing and rights to liberty. If there’s a case against him, he should be charged to court.”

Recall that we broke the news that Shehu Sani was arrested by the Economics and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on the 31st of December 2019.

Shehu Sani was arrested on the allegations of extortion. He was said to have extorted money from a car dealer under the guise that he had deep relations with the boss of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu.

Shehu Sani has remained in the custody of EFCC since then, and he has not been charged to court for the offense he was accused of.
