A Federal High Court has denied bail to a serving Bauchi State Commissioner, Yakubu Adamu, and three others who are standing trial on allegations of terrorism financing, according to a statement released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The suspects, who were arraigned on multiple counts relating to alleged provision of financial support to terrorist activities, had applied for bail pending the determination of their trial. However, the court ruled against the application, ordering that the defendants remain in custody while proceedings continue.
The EFCC stated that the ruling reinforces the seriousness of the charges and reflects the court’s position on the gravity of offences linked to terrorism financing.
The case is expected to resume on a later date for continuation of trial.
OYOGist notes that the development has generated significant public interest due to the high-profile nature of the defendant, who currently serves in the Bauchi State Executive Council.
The Commission says further details will be made available as the court process progresses.
