A cross-section of Nigerians has taken to social media to commend the series of reforms implemented under the Ministry of Interior, led by Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, highlighting visible improvements across immigration, corrections, civil defence, and fire services.

Many of the posts, shared on Boxing Day, described the ministry’s achievements as evidence-based governance aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

One of the most frequently cited reforms was the reduction of Nigerian passport processing time to as little as one week, alongside increased production efficiency and clearer application procedures. Users also praised the installation of electronic border-control gates (e-gates) at five major international airports, noting that shared videos showed smoother passenger processing and shorter queues during peak travel periods.

The Interior Ministry was also applauded for ongoing upgrades within the Nigerian Correctional Service, particularly investments in vocational training and rehabilitation programmes for inmates. Commentators referenced the release of 730 low-risk inmates in 2025 after the Federal Government paid ₦585 million in fines and compensation on humanitarian grounds, describing the move as both reform-minded and socially responsible.

Other reforms highlighted include the procurement of new fire service trucks and response equipment, as well as the promotion of more than 50,000 officers across security and paramilitary agencies, which supporters say has helped improve morale and operational readiness.

Social media users further pointed to the launch of the ECOWAS Biometric Identity Card in November 2025 as another milestone under the ministry, noting that the system enhances regional mobility and identity verification standards across West Africa.

While public reaction remained largely positive, some commentators encouraged the government to sustain the reform momentum, expand service delivery to underserved regions, and ensure accountability in policy implementation.

The Ministry of Interior has not yet issued an official statement reacting to the wave of public commendation, but observers say the feedback reflects growing citizen engagement with governance outcomes.
