Oyo State Integrates Ogbomoso Cradles Carnival into Annual ‘Vibing December’ Festivities

The Oyo State Government has officially incorporated the Ogbomoso Cradles Carnival into the extensive schedule of events for the 2025 Faaji December cultural and entertainment festival. This initiative highlights the state’s dedication to promoting its diverse cultural heritage and boosting tourism across all regions.

Festival Duration and Organizational Oversight

Coordinated by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Faaji December festival is set to take place from December 1, 2025, through January 2, 2026. This month-long celebration is designed to showcase the rich traditions and vibrant entertainment scene of Oyo State.

Significance of the Ogbomoso Cradles Carnival Inclusion

At a recent stakeholders’ meeting in Ibadan, Mr. Muyiwa Oke, Secretary of the Ogbomoso Cradles Carnival Planning Committee, emphasized that the carnival’s addition to the state’s festive calendar reflects a strategic effort to enhance cultural tourism and foster unity among the diverse communities within Oyo State.

He further explained that the carnival aligns with the 25-year development vision of Oba Ghandi Afolabi, the Soun of Ogbomosoland, aiming to celebrate and preserve the unique cultural identity of the region while promoting social cohesion.

Building on Past Successes

“We are committed to building upon the achievements of last year’s inaugural carnival,” Mr. Oke stated, highlighting the readiness of the organizing team to deliver an even more impactful event this year.

Supporting this optimism, Hon. Wasiu Olatubosun, Oyo State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, remarked that the first edition of the Faaji December festival was met with overwhelming success. He expressed confidence that the 2025 festival will exceed expectations, promising a richer and more immersive cultural experience for attendees.

Diverse Festive Activities and Economic Impact

The 2025 Vibing December festival promises a dynamic mix of entertainment and cultural exhibitions, including large-scale concerts, traditional parades, artisan showcases, culinary and fashion fairs, street carnivals, and grassroots community events throughout the state. The addition of the Ogbomoso Cradles Carnival enhances the festival’s diversity and appeal.

Organizers have announced that this year’s carnival will feature an expanded program with increased community engagement, innovative performances, and tourism-focused initiatives designed to stimulate local economic growth. Recent data from the Oyo State Tourism Board indicates that cultural festivals contribute over 15% to the state’s annual tourism revenue, underscoring the importance of such events.

Looking Ahead

With the integration of the Ogbomoso Cradles Carnival into the Faaji December lineup, Oyo State is poised to strengthen its position as a leading cultural destination in Nigeria. The festival not only celebrates the state’s rich heritage but also serves as a catalyst for economic development and social unity during the festive season.
