ADC Oyo State Launches Special Duty Committees to Bolster Grassroots Engagement
The Oyo State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially launched its Special Duty Committees, marking a strategic move to deepen the party’s influence across the state. At the inauguration held on Wednesday at the ADC State Secretariat in Ibadan, Comrade Ayo Akinyemi-formerly a prominent member of the Oyo State Labour Party-was appointed and sworn in as Chairman of the Contact and Mobilization Committee.
Strengthening Party Foundations Ahead of Elections
Under the leadership of State Chairman Alhaji Olayinka Olona, the inauguration ceremony underscored the party’s renewed dedication to reinforcing its grassroots network. With the 2024 electoral season approaching, the ADC is intensifying efforts to expand its presence and mobilize supporters throughout all political zones within Oyo State.
Mandate of the Contact and Mobilization Committee
The newly formed Contact and Mobilization Committee is tasked with establishing and consolidating the party’s footprint across all 33 local government areas in Oyo State. Its core objectives include broadening the party’s membership by engaging diverse community stakeholders such as youth organizations, professional bodies, artisans, women’s groups, religious leaders, and political alliances.
Additionally, the committee aims to forge partnerships with progressive movements that champion accountability, people-centered governance, and a transformative political culture. It will also spearhead continuous political education, grassroots communication, and awareness campaigns to enhance the ADC’s visibility and acceptance at the ward and local government levels.
Leadership Vision: Commitment to Inclusive Mobilization
Following his appointment, Comrade Akinyemi expressed heartfelt gratitude to the State Chairman and the Executive Committee for entrusting him with this pivotal role. He described the responsibility as “a call to dedicated service and active engagement with communities across all local government areas of Oyo State.”
Recognizing the magnitude of the task, Akinyemi emphasized that success hinges on unity, collaboration, and relentless effort. “This role demands courage, consistency, and unwavering commitment. Our mission is to connect with every community, ward, and local government area, delivering a revitalized political mobilization that aligns with the people’s aspirations for credible leadership,” he stated.
He further highlighted plans to collaborate closely with the ADC family and allied progressive groups, notably the dynamic Obidient Movement, whose principles resonate with the party’s vision. This alliance aims to build a more cohesive and formidable political front within Oyo State.
Transparency and Inclusivity at the Forefront
Comrade Akinyemi assured that the committee’s operations would be characterized by transparency, inclusiveness, and openness, pledging that “no ADC member will be marginalized or left behind.”
In his concluding remarks, he thanked the party leadership for recognizing his extensive influence, experience, and capacity to deliver impactful results. He reaffirmed his steadfast loyalty to the party’s structure and its developmental goals.
Call to Action: Collective Effort for Party Growth
Using the occasion, Akinyemi urged all ADC members, supporters, and political allies across Oyo State to unite in strengthening the party’s grassroots machinery. He emphasized that the committee’s success depends heavily on the active participation of ward leaders, local government area chairpersons, federal constituency coordinators, and every committed ADC member.
“Together, we will reposition ADC as the hub for progressive thinkers, bridge-builders, and visionary leaders dedicated to serving the people of Oyo State with integrity and respect,” he affirmed.
Other Committees Formed to Support Party Objectives
Alongside the Contact and Mobilization Committee, the party inaugurated several other key committees, including the Fundraising Committee, Membership Registration Committee, Accommodation and Logistics (Transport) Committee, Security and Protocol Committee, and Publicity and Communication Committee. These bodies will collectively drive the ADC’s strategic initiatives as the party prepares for upcoming political challenges.
