Oyo Lawmaker Secures Government Backing for Pedestrian Bridge Projects

Honorable Tolulope Akande-Sadipe, the elected representative for Oluyole Federal Constituency in Nigeria’s House of Representatives, has successfully obtained official approval from the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, to construct pedestrian bridges at strategic points along the heavily trafficked Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Addressing Safety Concerns in High-Traffic Zones

Following a productive meeting with Minister Umahi on Monday, Hon. Akande-Sadipe emphasized the critical need for pedestrian infrastructure in densely populated areas within Oluyole. She highlighted that these bridges are essential to reducing pedestrian accidents and enhancing overall road safety.

Identifying Priority Locations for Infrastructure Development

Building on a prior motion she presented in the House, the lawmaker pinpointed ten vital locations requiring pedestrian bridges: Technical University, Toll Gate, Felele, Soka, Sanyo, Boluwaji, Academy, Eleruku, Muslim, and Semi-Bio extending to Ojoo. These sites were selected based on traffic density and pedestrian risk factors.

Phased Implementation and Budget Inclusion

After thorough evaluation by the Ministry of Works, three locations-Soka, Boluwaji, and Muslim-have been greenlit for the initial phase of construction. These projects are slated for inclusion in the upcoming fiscal year’s budget, marking a significant step toward safer pedestrian transit along this major expressway.

Commitment to Continuous Advocacy and Development

Hon. Akande-Sadipe reaffirmed her dedication to protecting lives and advancing infrastructure within her constituency. She pledged ongoing collaboration with the Ministry to ensure the timely completion of these bridges and to push for the addition of the remaining proposed sites in future budget cycles.
