APC Strengthens Hold in Ido Local Government as Over 1,500 PDP Members Defect
Hon. Aderemi Oseni Declares PDP Defunct in Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency
On Sunday, Hon. Aderemi Oseni, the representative for Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, officially pronounced the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as effectively extinct within Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State. This announcement followed the mass defection of more than 1,500 PDP members to the All Progressives Congress (APC), signaling a significant political shift in the region.
Grand Reception Marks Defectors’ Integration into APC
The declaration was made during a vibrant reception organized by the Remi Oseni Committee of Friends (ROCOF), held at Oseni’s constituency office in Ologuneru, Ibadan. The event attracted a large gathering of party supporters and local leaders who commended Oseni’s inclusive leadership style and his effective grassroots mobilization strategies.
Notable Figures Among the Defectors
Key individuals who switched allegiance included Alhaji Bolaji Nureni Adeoye, Alhaji Akande, Alhaji Rasaki Elewedu, Alhaji Kasali Akande, Alhaji Dauda Afolabi, Hon. Wasiu Ijaoye, Adekola Kasumu, Nureni Adeyeri, Hon. Busari Kolawole, Elder Ogunleye, and Alhaji Lateef Lawal, among others. Their defection underscores the growing appeal of the APC in the area.
“Political Burial” of PDP in Ido Local Government
Hon. Oseni characterized the mass defection as the “political burial” of the PDP in Ido Local Government. He emphasized the symbolic timing of the event, stating, “We are conducting the PDP’s burial today, on a Sunday-a sacred day-signifying divine approval of our efforts.”
ROCOF: A Driving Force in Oyo State Politics
Oseni highlighted the pivotal role of the Remi Oseni Committee of Friends (ROCOF) as a dynamic political entity within the APC, instrumental in mobilizing grassroots support not only in Ido/Ibarapa East but throughout Oyo State. “ROCOF is like a locomotive in Nigeria’s political landscape-unstoppable and resolute,” he remarked. “Our objective is clear: by 2027, the APC will reclaim Oyo State and secure the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
Impact of Federal Policies and Local Legislative Efforts
The lawmaker attributed the APC’s growing influence in his constituency to the people-centered policies of the Tinubu administration, coupled with his own legislative initiatives aimed at grassroots development. “The APC-led federal government under President Tinubu has delivered commendable results, and we, as elected representatives, are reinforcing these achievements at the local level,” Oseni explained.
Assurance of Inclusion for New APC Members
Oseni assured the defectors of their seamless integration into the APC framework, promising equal opportunities and formal recognition by party leadership in due course. “Today, I warmly welcome over 1,500 former PDP members into the APC fold through ROCOF. You are not outsiders-you are part of this family,” he affirmed.
Defectors Cite Leadership and Results as Motivation
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Alhaji Bolaji Adeoye expressed that their decision to leave the PDP was motivated by Oseni’s credible leadership and tangible achievements. “We are not merely defectors; we are returning to where we truly belong. Hon. Remi Oseni is a trailblazer and a genuine representative of the people,” Adeoye stated. “I have no intention of ever recalling the PDP in my political journey.”
Commitment to Expanding APC Support Ahead of 2027 Elections
Other community leaders present pledged to continue rallying more supporters to the APC in preparation for the 2027 elections. They praised Oseni as a dependable leader who has transformed political representation through measurable outcomes.
Political Realignment Evident in Oyo State
Earlier, Alhaji Hakeem Okedina, Senior Legislative Aide to Hon. Oseni, commended the defectors for their courage and unity, noting that their move reflects the broader political realignment currently reshaping Oyo State’s political landscape.
