Oyogist.com has learned that a California man who fatally shot an elephant seal while it rested on a beach has been sentenced to three months in prison.
The man identified as Gerbich reportedly brought out a hand gun and shot the mammal in the head.
According to sources, Gerbich shot the seal “as a grotesque test,” demanded he killed the animal.
Prosecutors wrote that the killing “did not happen by accident or on a whim,” that they drove to a place where they knew elephant seals haul out, and that Gerbich brought a handgun.
