Yesterday, the Oyo State Governor chaired the launching of the intra-regoinal security outfit the South-West States called Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN) also known as Amotekún.
The new outfit is tasked with the duty of securing the five states within the South-West geopolitical zone of the country.
The governors of the states of Lagos, Oyo State, Ogun, Ekiti and Ondo State all led the creation effort that birthed the security outfit over a several meetings, consultations and conferences that lasted for six months.
However, at the inaugural launching ceremony of the Operation Amotekun, two State Governors were visibly absent.
The governors of Lagos State Babjide Sanwo-Olu, Ogun State Dapo Abiodun and that of Osun State Gboyega Oyetola were absent.
The Governors of Osun and Ogun States were represented by their deputies. Governor Akeredolu acted as the convener, while Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State played host to the event.
Speaking on the reason for the absence, the governor of Ondo state, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu said the weather was the reason the three governors couldn’t make it to the occasion.
Akeredolu apologizing on behalf of Sanwo-Olu said the management of the Caverton Helicopter, the company managing the Lagos State Governor’s flight to the venue of the event informed them that the weather conditions were not favorable to fly to Ibadan.
He however emphasized the support of Sanwo-Olu towards the initiative.
