Amidst clamour for racism to be put to an end globally, former Watford striker, Odion Jude Ighalo has revealed how he was racial abused while playing in China.
The Nigerian born point man said he was racially abused by a teammate during his time at Chinese club, Changchun Yatai. According to Ighalo, his teammate had called him all sorts of names while on the pitch. He felt so bad that he didn’t wait to shake hands with teammates after the game, opting instead to head straight to the dressing room.
“He called me all those kind of names. I was really angry and immediately after the game, I walked out of the pitch and straight to the dressing room without shaking any hands,” Ighalo recalled.

Although he had reported to the club’s authorities, he did not press further for charges against the abuser.
The striker who now plays for Manchester United in England, said he would report to the referee if racially abused while playing, and if nothing is done, he would leave the pitch.
Ighalo also offered advice on what could be done to end racism, stating that education of young people especially will go a long way to stop racism.
“We have to educate them, we’re all human, there is no difference, we should fight for humanity, not colour,” he advised.
