Covid-19: Madagascar Education Minister sacked over a plan to order 2.2million USD worth of sweets

The Madagascar’s Minister for education,Rijasoa Adriamanana, has been sacked over a plan to order $2.2million (£1.7) worth of sweets. Rijasoa said last week that she will order sweets for children in order to fade away the “bitter” after taking the Covid-19 Organics concoction, according to AFP news agency.

Covid-19 Organics is a plant-based tonic which was manufactured and promoted by the government of Madagascar as a cure for Covid-19 disease. Each student in the country was expected to get three sweets,according to Rijasoa.

Madagascar local news media says the minister stopped the plan after the Madagascan President, Andry Rajoelina objected. And she was accused of alleged planning to embezzle funds in her ministry.

The Minister was sacked on Thursday,4th of June, which was annouced in a statement by the Madagascan government, and the statement read further that her counterpart in the higher Education Ministry, Elia Béatrice Assoumacou, would take over as acting Minister of Education in the country.
