President Muhammadu Buhari has been appointed the “Champion for COVID-19 response” of African sub-region by the leaders of the Economic Community of West African States, OYOGist.com has learnt.
The President’s media aide and spokesperson, Bashir Ahmad shared the news on Twitter on Thursday, 23rd of April, 2020.
According to the statement released by the President’s media aide, he said President Buhari would lead the battle against the spread of the coronavirus pandemic in the sub-region.
“The ECOWAS Leaders today, appointed President Muhammadu Buhari as Champion of the COVID–19 Response, the President will lead the battle against the spread of the coronavirus pandemic in the sub-region,” Bashir Ahmad tweeted.
The President was handed the leadership role on Thursday’s extraordinary ECOWAS summit via a video teleconference which the President attended at the Aso Villa.
The President would champion the responses of the African sub-region to the COVID-19.
