The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has named chartered accountant Alhaja Kudirat Abiodun Adegunwa-Balogun as its deputy governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections, strengthening the party’s preparations for the upcoming poll.

The announcement was made during the APC Strategic Caucus Meeting held at the party secretariat in Abeokuta, just two months after Senator Solomon Adeola emerged as the party’s governorship candidate for Ogun State.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, while unveiling the candidate, said the selection process was guided by careful consideration and consultations among party stakeholders. He commended party members who embraced the consensus arrangement, describing Ogun APC’s approach to candidate selection as a model worthy of emulation by other states.

Adegunwa-Balogun, a native of Ososa in Odogbolu Local Government Area, is the daughter of prominent industrialist Alhaji Sulaiman Adegunwa, founder of Rite Foods Limited. Her emergence is seen as a strategic move by the party to balance experience, competence, and inclusiveness ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Speaking at the event, Senator Adeola disclosed that his running mate was selected from among 17 women who had expressed interest in the position. He noted that Adegunwa-Balogun stood out due to her qualifications and professional background.

The APC governorship candidate also praised Governor Abiodun for fostering unity within the party and ensuring a smooth and rancour-free process leading to the emergence of candidates. He added that the governor’s leadership had played a significant role in maintaining cohesion among party members.

In her acceptance speech, Adegunwa-Balogun expressed gratitude to the party leadership for the confidence reposed in her. She pledged loyalty to the party and promised to work diligently alongside the governorship candidate to advance the APC’s agenda in Ogun State.

With the unveiling of its deputy governorship candidate, the Ogun APC has taken another major step in positioning itself for the 2027 elections, as political activities gradually gather momentum across the state.
