A young Venezuelan lady and wife to footballer Héctor “Kike” Bello lost her life while successfully shielding her toddler from their collapsing apartment building.
The victim, identified by local outlets as Andrea, was found trapped beneath the rubble in the aftermath of the disaster.
While she did not survive the catastrophic building collapse, her heroic actions ensured that their young daughter was pulled from the debris alive.
Taking to Instagram to share his profound grief, Bello penned an emotional tribute to his late partner, vowing to keep her memory alive for their surviving child.
“I’ll tell her the story of how you saved her, my love — how you gave your own life for our daughter, how you were a brave woman who never abandoned her, even as you took your last breaths.” He wrote.
In a subsequent post, the footballer expressed the agonizing helplessness shared by many families affected by the disaster, writing: “How do I explain to your daughter that you lost your life to save hers, and that I wasn’t there to do anything? Give me strength now.”
