UK Government To End Self Isolation Requirements In England

Oyogist has learned that the UK government has announced that it would soon end self isolation in England.

Current coronavirus laws were due to expire on 24 March, but last week Mr Johnson suggested all of England’s remaining measures could end this month instead if the data remained encouraging.

However, Chaand Nagpaul, chairperson of the British Medical Association has said the ending of restrictions is “not based on data” and that “we should be protecting people”.

He said in an interview with reporters; “We think this is a premature decision. It’s not based on data and it’s unnecessary at this moment when we should be protecting people.

“And the government hasn’t put in place any of those explanations, but has made an announcement one month early, which we believe therefore becomes a political announcement, not one that’s based on the interests of the public’s health.

“He also said he had concerns around the ending of free testing and that “we aren’t therefore having proper surveillance” or “know the scale of infection in the community.”
