Nipah Virus (NiV), an emerging zoonotic disease with 40%-75% mortality rate

According to reports reaching Oyogist.com, various cases of the 1988 Nipah virus (NiV) has been reported presently in Asia, with a very high rate of mortality.

The Nipha virus (NiV) was first transmitted from bats to pigs and subsequently from pigs to humans, (by eating contaminated food or through direct interaction with the host).

It’ss symptoms includes fever, cough, headache, shortness of breath and convulsion, as medical experts fear that this may be the world’s next pandemic.

According to a tweet by popular Nigerian Doctor, Olufunmilayo on twitter, the Nipha virus can be prevented by doing the following;

•Wash hands regularly with soap & water

•Avoid contact with sick bats or pigs

•Avoid areas where bats are common

•Never eat fruits that may be contaminated by bats.
