#NINRegistrationFlop trends as millions of Nigerians risk exposure to COVID-19 at overcrowded NIMC centers

As the February 9 deadline issued by the Federal government over NIN-SIM linkage approaches gradually, many Nigerians have stormed major NIN offices nationwide to ensure they get theirs done before deadline, Oyogist.com has learnt.

Latest update from the NCC shows that about 143 million of 207 million active SIM cards have successfully linked their NIN, leaving over 20 million mobile subscribers without NIN-SIM linkage.

Due to the massive turnout of people observed Nationwide, they has been a lot of doubt on social media concerning the Registration exercise, which brought about the hashtag #NINRegistrationFlop, as Nigerians plead with the Federal Government to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in these places.

A Twitter user @tomiw_a wrote;

“Just thinking if NIMC understands the implications of this NIN registration cuz it looks like the disadvantages are high #NINRegistrationFlop”

Another user @isacc opined;

XOur government doesnt have a plan.. This is sad because Nigeria is a developing country! Yet a developing country can’t Register a simple procedure online…now the covid 19 casualties are soaring like an eagle in the sky.. Its our government we blame!”

“The economic consequences of a failed registration process are humongous. Most SMEs and growing businesses depend on their telephone to carry out their businesses so deactivation of SIM will adversely affect their businesses. #NINRegistrationFlop” @Ayoola wrote.
