The Kogi State Government has announced the procurement of 50 armoured vehicles as part of renewed efforts to combat insecurity and strengthen security operations across the state.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo disclosed the development while inspecting the first batch of five armoured vehicles that had arrived in Lokoja, the state capital. According to the governor, the acquisition is aimed at enhancing the operational capacity of security agencies and improving their ability to respond effectively to criminal threats.
Ododo stated that the vehicles would be deployed to support security personnel conducting patrols and other operations, particularly in communities vulnerable to attacks by bandits, kidnappers, and other criminal elements.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, describing security as the foundation for sustainable development and economic growth. The governor noted that no amount of investment is too great when it comes to protecting residents and ensuring peace across the state.
The governor also revealed that criminal groups have become increasingly sophisticated in their operations, sometimes relying on modern technologies and coordinated tactics. He stressed the need for proactive measures and adequate support for security agencies to stay ahead of emerging threats.
Ododo praised the efforts of the Nigerian Army, the Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), local vigilante groups, and hunters for their contributions to maintaining peace in Kogi State. He assured residents that the government would continue to provide the necessary logistics and resources needed to confront insecurity.
In a strong message to criminal elements, the governor ruled out any form of negotiation or ransom payments, insisting that public resources would be better utilised in equipping security operatives rather than rewarding unlawful activities.
The procurement of the armoured vehicles represents one of the state’s most significant security investments in recent times and underscores the government’s determination to restore public confidence and ensure that all parts of Kogi remain safe for residents and businesses.
Governor Ododo said the 50 armoured vehicles would strengthen ongoing operations against criminal activities, with the first batch already delivered for deployment across the state.
