The Medical Director of the Peace Hospital, Ayingba, Dr. Azubuike Joel Ihenacho, has been kidnapped by an unknown gunman.

A statement issued on Monday by KOGI State Chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association stated that Dr. Ihenacho was kidnapped on Saturday night at his residence in Ayingba.

The statement was signed by the State NMA Chairman, Dr. Omakoji Oyiguh, and his secretary, Dr. Famotele Tolorunju, and is available for journalists in Lokoja, after an emergency meeting association said that unidentified gunmen hid in Dr Azubuike residence between 9.00. to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 21, and kidnapped him.

The association requested security operations to help in searching and rescue doctors.

According to the statement, the doctor who was kidnapped was in a vehicle with another man and his wife in front of his house when the kidnappers were armed with teeth struck and ordered the other two occupants in the car out and left with him.

“Dr. Azubuike Joel Iheanacho was kidnapped in front of his house in Anyigba in Dekina local Government Area of Kogi state. He was in a vehicle with another man and his wife when the kidnappers ordered the other two from the car,” the statement was stressed.

However, he said the association had reported the ugly incident to security agencies and state governments for intervention that would lead to rescue of their members who were kidnapped immediately.

It will be recalled that two of their members, Dr. Ebiloma Yahaya Aduku from Zonal Hospital, Ankpa, and Dr. Kelechi Mgbahurike from Christ the King Hospital Anyigba, was kidnapped on October 6 but then released after the intervention of security agencies.

The State Police Commissioner, Ayuba Ede, who confirmed the kidnapping, said that the effort continued to save Dr. Ihenacho.

“Our Men have entered the bushes on their trail, we even saw other victims left by the kidnappers, we suspected that it was locally arranged and we would get them in a short time,” he added.
