BREAKING: Multiple gunshots, fire attacks recorded at Oyigbo, Port Harcourt

(2:51am) Midnight, 23rd of October, and there have been multiple reports of shootings, breaking ins and arsons at Oyigbo, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, OYOGist.com has gathered.

Several Twitter users have also corroborated this report and many have given harrowing accounts of the perpetrators breaking into people houses.

Currently, OYOGist.com is unable to independently verify the scale of the attacks, but we’ll relay what many sources have reported here.

In a series of emergency messages sent out, a user said the attacks are being carried out by “Hause people from Yam zone area”.

There are also alleged reports of burning of filling stations as well.

Some other accounts said the shootings would dwarf the ones carried out at the Lekki Toll Plaza when the day breaks.

A user recorded video managed to capture some of what is going on.

It does not appear any security operatives or the authorities have responded to the incident as at the time of filing this report.

According to a user report, the attack is a build up of rising tensions between Fulani herdsmen and Oyigbo residents. It is not particularly clear what has led to the tensions between the two communities, but it seems the herdsmen have started terrorizing the community for days, hiding under the cover of the #EndSARS protests.

Another user says the members of the community are defending themselves and have armed themselves with machetes to fight back the bandits.

The attacks reportedly started last night, with arsons and shooting.

According to another user report, the attacks are allegedly retaliation for killing one of the Fulani herdsmen that live at Yam Zone.

The area, according to user report, is reputed for being a no-response zone to law-enforcement.
