“Today is Eid, Ramadan Ended Yesterday” – Chief Imam of Ibadan

OYOGist.com has learned that the Grand Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Alhaji AbdulGaniyu Agbotomokekere has maintained that the Ramadan 1441 fasting (2020) ended yesterday, Friday, 22nd of May, 2020.

The Imam in his claim did not state reason for concluding that the fact that the fasting ended yesterday, but we gathered that the cleric and his loyal followers began fasting a day ahead of others Muslims in Nigeria.

Imam Agbotomokekere who made the new development known in post on his official Facebook account last night said: Eid Fitr: As Ramadan complete today Friday 22nd of May 2020 equivalent to Yaoma Jumuah 30th of Ramadan 1441 tomorrow Saturday 23rd of May 2020 is Shawal 1st 1441.”

Over the years, there have been a standing controversy on the date of beginning and ending the month of Ramadan (Fasting) which has resulted in some sect of Muslims praying earlier than their fellow.

Though Muslim especially Nigeria use Saudi Arabia as a lead model when trying to decide on the end of the fasting and the leader of Muslims in Nigeria, The Sardauna of Sokoto, Emir Sa’ad Abubakar had announced Sunday as the first day of the month of Shawwal. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Qatar, Indonesia among other country already announced Sunday as the first day of Shawwal.
