According to police, over 50 people have lost their lives as a truck rigged with explosives in a busy intersection in Somalia’s capital city exploded at rush hour.

A vehicle carrying bombs hit the taxation office near a junction in Mogadishu killing more than 50 people, a police officer Ahmed Abdi Hussein told international business news company, Bloomberg News.

According to Bloomberg, one police officer said Turkish engineers sitting in a vehicle near the intersection were the target of the bomb attack. He didn’t elaborate further.

According to Turkey’s state-owned news outlet Anadolu Agency, two Turks were among the people killed in the attack. The news agency credited the claim to the Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.

As of the time of report, no terrorist organization has come out to claim responsibility for the attack. Al-Shabab, a militant group linked to al-Qaeda last week claimed responsibility for a car bombing operation that killed eight people in central Somalia.
