Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has inaugurated the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs, marking the reactivation of the council after more than a decade of inactivity.
The governor noted that the council, which had been inactive since 2011, plays a vital role in the administration of the state, as traditional institutions collaborate closely with government on governance and community affairs.
Makinde explained that under the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs (Further Amendments) Law 2025, the chairmanship of the council is now rotational. Following consultations with stakeholders, it was agreed that His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, Arusa I, the Olubadan of Ibadan, will serve as Chairman of the council for the next two years.
The inauguration signals renewed engagement between the state government and traditional rulers in promoting grassroots development and effective governance across Oyo State.
