Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has responded to reports that his son, Abba Abubakar, has joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the decision as a personal choice.
In a statement, Atiku said such decisions are neither unusual nor alarming in a democracy, even when politics and family intersect. He stressed that he does not coerce his children on matters of conscience and would not impose such coercion on Nigerians.
While acknowledging his son’s decision, Atiku said his real concern remains what he described as the APC’s poor governance and the economic and social hardships facing Nigerians.
He reaffirmed his commitment to working with like-minded patriots to restore good governance and offer Nigerians a credible alternative that delivers relief, hope, and progress.
