World-renowned heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua was involved in a serious road accident along Ibadan expressway in his hometown in Ogun State, Nigeria, on Monday, in a crash that claimed the lives of two foreign nationals.
According to multiple eyewitness accounts and preliminary reports to Oyogist.com, Joshua was travelling in his Lexus SUV when one of the vehicle’s tires reportedly burst, causing the vehicle to lose control and collide with a stationary trailer parked along the roadside. Rescue personnel at the scene were seen carefully removing the boxer from the damaged SUV, and he appeared to be in pain and injured, though the extent of his injuries has not yet been officially confirmed.
Tragically, the crash also resulted in the deaths of two foreign passengers, whose identities are still being verified by authorities. Emergency responders pronounced them dead at the scene, and their bodies were later taken into the custody of medical officials for further examination.
The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) and local police were on the scene to secure the area and manage traffic, while investigations continue into the exact cause of the collision. Early accounts suggest that the Lexus lost control after a tire failure, but officials have yet to release a formal statement confirming the cause.
As news of the accident spread, tributes and prayers poured in on social media from fans, fellow athletes, and well-wishers expressing concern for Joshua’s recovery and condolences for the victims’ families.
No statement has yet been released by Joshua’s management team or medical personnel regarding his condition or expected prognosis, but updates are anticipated as investigations and medical evaluations are completed.
