Werder Bremen’s Clemens Fritz Comments on Victor Boniface’s Fitness and Transfer Speculations

Werder Bremen’s sporting director, Clemens Fritz, recently provided clarity on the injury concerns surrounding striker Victor Boniface, amid rumors linking the Nigerian forward with a potential move back to Bayer Leverkusen, according to Soccernet.ng.

Boniface’s Unexpected Move and Struggles at Werder Bremen

In a surprising transfer during the summer window, 24-year-old Victor Boniface joined Werder Bremen on a season-long loan, despite ongoing negotiations with AC Milan. Since his arrival, the 2024 Bundesliga Rookie of the Year has yet to find the back of the net in 11 appearances, a stark contrast to his previous form.

His tenure at the Weser Stadion has been marred by recurring fitness setbacks, weight management challenges, and injuries. These issues notably contributed to his exclusion from Nigeria’s squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, coached by Eric Chelle.

Injury Update and Transfer Window Prospects

Werder Bremen has confirmed that Boniface will be sidelined for the club’s final league fixture of the year against Augsburg, alongside his compatriot Felix Agu. The striker is currently nursing a knee injury, a condition that previously thwarted his transfer to AC Milan last summer.

“Victor is quite battered at the moment, and we are coordinating closely with the medical team at Leverkusen. We intend to give him some rest now,” Fritz told Deichstube.

“He will take a few days off to recover, and then we will assess his progress. After that, we will decide on the best way forward,” Fritz added.

“No formal approach has been made by Victor or any party, and there are no current transfer discussions from either Leverkusen or our side. Our priority is his full recovery. Everything else remains uncertain for now,” he concluded.

Off-Field Highlights: Boniface’s Lifestyle Choices

While Boniface’s on-field performances have been hampered by physical setbacks, his off-field life tells a different story. Recently, the Nigerian international made headlines with a luxury purchase-a 2025 Lamborghini Urus in striking blue, valued at approximately $350,000, signaling his taste for high-end automobiles.

Looking Ahead: What’s Next for Victor Boniface?

As the January transfer window approaches, speculation about Boniface’s future continues to swirl. However, Werder Bremen’s management emphasizes that the player’s health and fitness remain the top priority before any decisions about his career trajectory are made. With knee injuries being notoriously tricky, the coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether Boniface can regain his form and fulfill the potential that earned him Bundesliga’s Rookie of the Year honors.
