Texas Governor, Greg Abbott threatens to cut the pay of legislators over election overhaul bill

Oyogist has learned that the Governor of Texas, Greg Abbott has vowed to prevent lawmakers from getting paid following a walkout staged by Democratic legislators demanding that they needed to pass a sweeping election overhaul bill they see as voter suppression.

The Republican governor said he’d deny them their pay by vetoing Article 10 of the budget that funds the legislature.

“No pay for those who abandon their responsibilities,” the governor tweeted. “Stay tuned.”

Meanwhile state Rep. Gene Wu while reacting to Gov. Abbott recent order, Disclosed that he doesn’t care about his $600 a month salary “[b]ut there are thousands of workers here with families to support.”

“Punishing working class office staff, maintenance and other support services because he didn’t get every single one of his demands is very on-brand for Texas Republicans,” “This is petty and tone-deaf, even for Texas,” he said.
