OYOGist.com has learned that jihadist soldiers connected to the Islamic State organization allegeldy killed a few security staff in a snare on the caravan of the Borno State governor, the Agencies France Press (AFP) announced Friday late evening citing sources.
Sources revealed to AFP that eight cops, three military men, and four people from a legislature volunteer army were executed in the ambush on vehicles conveying Borno state lead representative, Babagana Umara Zulum close to the town of Baga on the shores of Lake Chad.
The agitators started shooting with powerful rifles and rocket-moved explosives as the escort was going through a town near the central command of the Multinational Joint Task Force, a military alliance of troops from Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroon.
“The lead representative got away without any injuries, however, 15 security men on the caravan were executed in a savage fight with the deadly terrorist”, one source said.
Zulum was on an inspection visit through Baga in anticipation of the arrival of thousands of inhabitants uprooted from the town by the jihadists in 2014, the sources said.
The lead representative flew on a helicopter into the post town of Monguno, 60 kilometres (40 miles) away, and made a beeline for Baga in an escort under close security, one of the sources said.
Every one of the three sources was chatting on the state of anonymity.
The IS-subsidiary Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) organization keeps up the vast majority of its camps on islands in Lake Chad and the area is known as a stronghold for the jihadists.
The militarist organization has as of late strengthened attacks on the military and regular citizen in the area.
