According to report reaching OYOGist.com, the federal government has declared its readiness to employ 33 thousand Oyo state indigent workers in its ongoing special public works program.
Oyo State Coordinator of the program, Mr. Ope Salami disclosed this in Ibadan, noting that the 20-man committee to oversee the program in Oyo will be selected from the five administrative zones of the state, which comprises of various religious groups, traditional rulers, youths, market leaders, amongst others.
However, the Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has described the special public works program by the federal government as a palliative that could help to alleviate the suffering of the people in the face of the Covid-19 Pandemic and boost the country’s economy.
Governor Seyi Makinde, speaking through his Special Adviser on Administration and general services, Idowu Ogedengbe, opined that the development would be an avenue for indigent citizens who have been affected by the pandemic to be more profitably engaged.
You will recall that the Minister for finance, budget and national planning, Ahmed Zainab announced President Muhammadu Buhari’s approval to extend the program designed to mitigate lack of job opportunities through a short term engagement of one thousand unemployed persons per local government area for a period of three months, in all the states of the country and the federal capital territory.
