Two Dead As Boko Haram Shoots Down United Nations Helicopter in Borno

According to reports reaching OYOGist.com, Boko Haram terrorists have reportedly stricken Damasak area of Borno State, murdering two civilians and firing a humanitarian chopper belonging to the UN task, which was destroyed.

The United Nation Resident Coordinator in Nigeria, Mr Kallon Edward, verified the terrorists’ invasion on Saturday 4, June, denounced the shooting of the plan and called on the FG to bring the perpetrators to justice.

An authority at the United Nation tasks House in Maiduguri, Borno State said that the United Nations had discontinued its missions in the fearful North-East for at least one week.

According to Edward, the United Nations Humanitarian Air Service is basic to vacate wounded civilians and in 2019 transported sixty thousand two hundred and seventy-one passengers and one hundred and forty-seven megatons of humanitarian help. He, therefore, regretted that the attack on a United Nations chopper would affect the organisation’s capacity to reach remote locations.

The United Nations chief explained, “I am gravely concerned by announcements of another violent raid by non-state armed groups in Damasak in which at least two civilians forfeited their lives, including a 5yrs kids. Many people were wounded, and a humanitarian chopper was hit, boosting serious damage.

“I welcome the govt’s commitment to interrogate the raid and swiftly bring to justice the perpetrators. A United Nations Humanitarian Air Service chopper was strike by bullets during the invasion. No aid workers were on board at the time and crew members are all safe.

Meanwhile one of the UN workers, who spoke on condition of anonymity, added, “The helicopter was on a flight to pick some aid workers from Damasak to Maiduguri on Friday but the trip was suddenly aborted after the aircraft was shot by some members of the terrorist group using surface-to-air missiles.

“The tragic forced the UN Humanitarian Coordinator to authorize the suspension of all the agency’s air trips in the province for a week”.
