Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has paid a visit to the site of the fire incident that happened in Ibadan yesterday, at Dugbe Alawo Market to assess the nature of the damage that occurred at the place, OYOGist.com has learned.
On Wednesday 15th of April 2020, the popular Dugbe Alawo market caught fire that left several shops and their wares in ashes, with the victims of the fire incident left helpless while waiting for the firefighters to arrive.
OYOGist.com recalls that Union Bank, located around the same market was reported to have also caught fire.
“The timing couldn’t have been worse as we are still dealing with the economic and social implications of COVID-19,” the Governor said during the visit.
While at the market, Seyi Makinde commended the fire fighters for their efforts to contain the spread of the fire.
The Governor also promised to work out a plan to create palliatives for victims of fire accidents in the state.
“Let me commend the Oyo State Fire Service & the Federal Fire Service for their timely intervention which ensured that the fire was quickly contained,” Seyi Makinde said.
“I promised that going forward, the Oyo State Govt will work towards setting up a system to provide relief to victims of disasters.”
