America, who is the most hard-hit country with the Coronavirus pandemic, has halted funding for the WHO over its role in “severely mismanaging and covering up the spread of Coronavirus” and supporting China’s false information concerning the virus, President Trump announced on Tuesday.
President Trump, during his Tuesday 14th April coronavirus daily briefing, announced that he has instructed his administration to suspend $400 million dollars in annual funding to the World Health Organization (WHO) who supported China’s report concerning the deadly coronavirus.
President Trump said that the WHO strongly opposed travel bans placed on China and other countries by the Trump Administration in the early stages of the COVID-19 crisis, a decision that Trump said has caused the infection rate to multiply by twenty-fold.
“The WHO’s reliance on China’s disclosures likely caused a twenty-fold increase in cases worldwide,” President Trump said.
President Trump revealed that the WHO released false statements about the nature of the disease, telling the government and the world that the virus was non-communicable and even praised China’s efforts in controlling the Coronavirus disease.
President Trump, in his address, described the WHO as “China-centric”, saying China only supports the body with a mere $40 million dollars annually as opposed to the US $400 million annual funding to the body, which is now being halted.
An investigation has been launched into the practice of the organization with China over the Coronavirus pandemic.
“Had the WHO done its job to get medical experts into China to objectively assess the situation on the ground and to call out China’s lack of transparency, the outbreak could have been contained at its source with very little death,” the president said.
“The WHO has not addressed a single one of these concerns nor provided a serious explanation.”
