Former presidential candidate Gbenga Hashim has praised Nigeria’s security agencies for the successful rescue of the pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, describing the operation as proof that criminal groups can be defeated when security forces receive strong political backing.
Hashim commended the military, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and other security operatives involved in the rescue mission, noting that their coordinated efforts demonstrated professionalism and resilience in the fight against insecurities.
According to him, the success of the operation sends a strong message that kidnappers and other criminal elements are not invincible. He stressed that with sustained political commitment, adequate resources, quality intelligence, and inter-agency collaboration, Nigeria can significantly reduce insecurity across the country.
Hashim also urged government at all levels to maintain unwavering support for security personnel, insisting that consistent investment in intelligence gathering, logistics, and personnel welfare would strengthen ongoing efforts against terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping. He added that victories against criminal networks should inspire greater public confidence in the nation’s security architecture.
His remarks came after the successful rescue of the Oriire pupils and teachers who had spent 56 days in captivity. President Bola Tinubu also hailed the operation, applauding the security agencies for rescuing the victims without collateral damage while arresting several suspects linked to the abduction.
Hashim concluded by calling for sustained political will and national unity, saying the fight against insecurity requires continuous government support, effective leadership, and cooperation between security agencies and local communities to achieve lasting peace.
