A social media user has sparked widespread reactions after alleging that a digital loan app falsely informed people on his contact list that he was HIV-positive during an attempt to recover an outstanding debt.

The user, identified as @vslkemo on X, claimed he initially borrowed ₦100,000 from the loan platform and was expected to repay ₦120,000.
According to him, he defaulted on the repayment by four days, after which the app increased the amount due to ₦135,000.

Despite paying the original ₦120,000, he alleged that the app continued adding charges until the outstanding balance exceeded ₦1 million.

Sharing his experience, he wrote:

“I borrowed 100k to pay 120k, I defaulted 4 days so the app said I was to pay 135k.

“But I paid the 120k, the money kept increasing to over 1M. Told them I’d NEVER pay.

“After 6 months the app started sending all my contacts on WhatsApp my picture telling them that I have HIV.”

The allegation has triggered discussions online, with many social media users condemning alleged harassment and privacy violations by some digital loan platforms.
