Trump Proposes Renaming ICE to ‘NICE’ to Tackle Media Criticism

United States President Donald Trump has suggested renaming the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency to “NICE” by adding the word “National” to its official name, arguing that the move would help counter what he described as unfair media criticism of the agency.

In a post shared on his official X account on Saturday, Trump praised ICE officers as “great patriots” who carry out their duties under difficult conditions.

He claimed that negative coverage from the media and criticism from political opponents had unfairly damaged the agency’s image.

According to Trump, changing the agency’s name to National Immigration and Customs Enforcement (NICE) would make it more difficult for critics and journalists to portray the organisation negatively.

He joked that media outlets would have to use phrases such as “NICE agents” or “NICE facility,” which he suggested would undermine their criticism.

Trump argued that the addition of the letter “N” would give the agency a “more prestigious” identity while maintaining its mission of enforcing U.S. immigration and customs laws.

The proposal comes as immigration enforcement remains one of the defining issues of Trump’s administration, with ICE continuing to play a central role in border security, deportation operations, and immigration-related investigations.

Although the suggestion was presented in a light-hearted tone, it has already sparked reactions online, with supporters applauding the idea as a clever rebranding effort while critics dismissed it as a symbolic move that does not address broader debates surrounding the agency’s policies and operations.
